I have owned this for quite a few years . (Original lot) Have never had a problem with it.
I recently purchased an SVT 3 and actually prefer the sound of the PF . Both are great amps , one is much less expensive .

    • + Sounds good, great portability.
    Cons
    • - Midrange selector
Bought this amp brand new and have had it for almost three years. I've never had a problem with it, it's been super reliable. The flip top comes in handy, extremely portable unit. Not a fan of the mids selector switch, it's not very responsive. Can't really get those mids that help you cut through in a mix. Other than that, it sounds great for recording, looks cool, and I'd recommend it to other bassists.

I just love he power and the tone it produces on all of my Basses including acoustics.small enough to put in my backpacks, but powerful enough to make a decent statement in all my gigs.

Here it is: Ampeg Portaflex tone, 500 watts of power, and easy portability. Weighing in at just 14 lbs., the Ampeg PF500BH Portaflex Bass Head is a dream come true for bass players. No longer dread lugging your gear to the gig. If needed, you can throw this amp in a backpack and hit the subway. Featuring the well-known Ampeg tone, the PF500BH has a large tonal palette with a selectable mid-tone control with five preset mid-tones for all styles of music. With its Ultra Hi and Ultra Lo switches, you can get all the snap and deep rumble you desire. As part of the famed Portaflex series this amp can be mounted in a Portaflex series cabinet in true flip-top fashion. Yes, you can hide the amp away in the cab just as you could with the vintage B15. If you are looking for tone, wattage, and compact size, the Ampeg PF500BH Portaflex Bass Head is for you.
