I had been looking for a small bass amp that I could use when jamming with friends (mostly acoustic). I did not need lots of volume, but so many of the small practice amps I tried (both new and used) lacked the rich bass I was looking for. A friend in town showed me his Markbass MicroMark. It had exactly the sound I was after, but was WAY beyond my price range. I then stumbled on the EC10 on sale for $159 over the internet. I normally would not buy something like an amp without getting a chance to play it first. But I was not finding anything comparable at all in local shops. So I figured I would order it, then send it back if I did not like it.
I did not need to worry at all. This thing is a keeper! For the size and price, the EC10 had a much deeper sound than anything else I had tried. It appears to be extremely well built, and has some nice extras like the effects loop and separate output for a tuner. I have played my mp3 player through the aux input for practicing, and am very pleased with the sound. I would have been nice to have a separate volume knob for the aux input, but that is a very minor nit-pick.
The amp puts out great volume for such a small size. At 50w, the amp puts out much more power than I will usually need. But I have turned it up, just to see what it could do, and was pleased at both the volume it pumped out, and lack of any breakup or distortion.
Overall, I am thrilled with the EC10. I jammed with friends over the weekend, and they were also very pleased with the sound.
I'm sure for more money (like the above mentioned Micromark), or more weight, you could find amps with even better bass, or could pump out more volume. However, given my budget, and portability requirements, the EC10 totally rocks.
