Where to start? This bass is the definition of mwah and growl...but only when you want it. EQ set to flat and balanced pick-ups and you can pass for a fretted jazz bass if you have a light touch with your left hand. The amount of fretless sound you want is up to you. Slightly favor the bridge pick-up and roll off the tone a smidge and you have a fretless monster at your disposal.
The build is remarkable. The fit and finish are top notch and Hiro really did a remarkable job of finding a gorgeous of piece of ebony for the fingerboard.
A testament to the build quality is the low action. I was nervous when I first received the bass that the action was too low. Living in an arid climate, wood likes to move here. I've had this bass for nearly a a year now and it has not budged a millimeter. That speaks highly of a builder and the wood he chooses for his instruments.
