Did you have the chance to compare the DI output with other DI boxes? Any noticeable difference?

I don't have any intermediary effects, just sending my dry signal. I'm curious if J48 sounds "better" (whatever that means) than SBP-1 and if there would be a compromise in terms of noise, signal level, etc. I don't have the chance to test a SBP-1, that's why I'm looking for advice.

My American Pro II P V (five strings, maple) is a magnificent beast, which gets playtime in my highest paying gigs. Very comfortable to play and I like its string-to-string balance. Can jump anywhere on the neck without worries. Sounds great through the obvious Ampeg preamp. Highly recommended.

They are passive instruments and I didn't apply any EQ to them. That could be the reason why. Don't let the extra knobs on the J fool you - they are "producer knobs" if you know what I mean :smug:

On my Sadowsky M5, I align the left hook of the stand with the B string on the bridge. Stays pretty balanced.

Offset bodies used to give me anxiety because they wouldn't stay balanced enough on many backline stands. Then I discovered the foldable GS402BB stand by Hercules, which fits into my Mono Tick easily and keeps offset basses balanced. Now I have two of those and don't mind bass shapes anymore.

Most decent FOH desks have built-in compressors. During soundcheck, you can send the sound engineer your lowest and highest (effected) signal levels, so they can set the compression accordingly. This might negate the need for the second compressor/limiter pedal. I don't use pedals much anymore...

In my subjective experience, the Darkglass Vintage Deluxe can get into the same ballpark - it can produce a similar mid response.

Unsolicited advice: Any Darkglass Ultra pedal I've tried has introduced noise into my signal chain, while the deluxe ones haven't. If you have any plans of putting them on your pedalboard later on, make sure to check for noise early on.
