    Sire Z3 bass review

Congrats on getting your hands on one. Sire did a great job with these. The only upgrade I may do one day is to add some lightweight tuners, but the stock ones on mine are fine. Let us know how you like it when it comes in.

Just double checked them both and they appear to be the same. You should be good with the Nordstrand if you decide to go that route. I will say though that the stock ceramic pickup sounds really good IMO. You may just decide like me to leave it stock.

    Sire Z3 bass review

Yes it does. It's even more sparkly in person than in the photos. Don't hesitate to order one when they are available. Really digging mine so far, and after playing it live three times now, I still haven't found anything to dislike. I also have a couple of Sterlings rays. They are hard to...

    Lakland Basses... just in general

I agree. My 55-OS is a great instrument all around, but I should have just spent the extra money and went with the 55-02 with the Lakland electronics. That would be my advise to anyone thinking about getting one. A $1500.00 bass should come with better pickups that the MK1s IMO.

    NBD Sire Z7 (belated)

Nice looking bass! Congrats. I've had a black sparkle Z3 for about 2-3 weeks now. Really digging it so far. The fretwork on mine was fine, but I did have to file the nut slots, which were a little high. Other than that, everything else was spot on. I also have two Sterlings (Ray4 sub and...

    Sire Z3 bass review

I had a few minutes this morning to take a few pics. The preamp on the Z3 does have a trim pot. Gonna try later to get the active and passive outputs closer, but I kinda like where it's set now.

    Sire Z3 bass review

Thanks for posting that information. Keep it coming guys. As of now, there are very few hands on reviews that people thinking about ordering one can look at. If you have a Z3/Z7, post your thoughts and opinions. I just learned from watching a video that there is a trim pot on the preamp to...

    Sire Z3 bass review

Sorry for the late response, but work has been busy. No neck dive at all when standing with a strap on the 4 string I have. Not sure about the fiver.

    Sire Z3 bass review

Nice! Congrats. That color is more my style, but the black sparkle is growing on me. I can also confirm that there appears to be no tone control in passive mode, only volume. I think the Z7 does though. I still love my Sterlings, but they are going to have some serious competition with these.

Your story of keeping or selling?

I like having one of each flavor like a Jazz, P bass, stingray, a good fiver, etc. ..because you never know when you'll need/want one. Outside of that, I need to either sell em off, or give them away to some young person just starting out. I've done that several times in the past and never...

    Lakland Basses... just in general

I picked up a 55-OS skyline a few years ago. Pros: Great fit and finish, great neck, best B string I've had, solid hardware, able to get shocking low action. Cons: HEAVY, IMO Lakland made a poor choice of pickups with the import Bartolini MK1's. I'm always fiddling with the eq trying to get...

    Sire Z3 bass review

The pickup is the same size as the one in my Sterling sub Ray4 (see pics). While I was at it, I confirmed that the pickup is approximately 2 5/8" way from the G String saddle, which is also the same as the Ray4. So it appears the pickup is in the same position. After getting a chance to play...

    Sire Z3 bass review

That's how I feel about it too. A stingray special at a fraction of the price. I thought I read somewhere that pickups in your model are alnico, as opposed to the ceramic pickup in the Z3. Not sure if you can confirm that? If so, that would be an upgrade, but the ceramic pickup in mine sounds...

    Sire Z3 bass review

Sounds similar to the tone in active mode with everything set flat. Same stingray tone, but of course the output drops slightly. It doesn't drop as much as my Lakland 55-OS which has very low output in passive mode. If you need that really punchy stingray tone in passive mode, you'll have to...

    Sire Z3 bass review

Yes. I don't currently own an EBMM Stingray, but I do have a Sterling sub Ray4 and a Ray24 CA to compare it to. With the 18v preamp and the pickup wired in parallel, it's kinda sounds to me like a stingray special with a ceramic pickup. I think it gets very close to that stingray sound, and...

    Sire Z3 bass review

Hey guys. I've officially been a member for about a year, but this will be my first post. I have learned so many things from many of you over the years, so I figured this would be my chance to pass along some information. I just received a Sire Z3 four string in black sparkle, after being on...
