A string that was specifically designed by James How for Jim Burns’s famous Black Bison in 1962.

This string emulates the upright bass sound and the nearest you will ever get to a double bass that can be played as an electric bass.

The magnetic stainless steel undercovers that sit below the special black nylon tape ensures the best of both worlds by having a bass that is comfortable to handle, that will work with a conventional amplifier and yet offer a sound so reminiscent of its much larger brother.

Really easy on your fingers and dont cause any blistering, also sounds great when fingerpicking close to the neck which is what I use them for.

Problem is becuase they are so thick the E string can really easily clang, espetially when playing near the back pickup.

If you playing a softer style of playing and need something really bassy but dont have a 5 string these are perfect. If you want something with a lot of attack and little clang you should look at something else

Struggled to get a decent sound, gave up on them like another review here, wouldn't try again. You can get a better sound just with Nickels and down toning - I seriously think these are over rated and doubt weather the were used on classics such as 'come together' or anything. Sound very different. (25+exp here).

I've tried many bass strings as I've moved along on my bassist path. Eventually settling on Chromes as the perfect string for me. Then I discovered the Rotosound Tru Bass 88's. Wow!!! Freaking awesome!!
Heaviest guage strings out there. Produces super low tones. My guitarist upon first hearing them asked if i was communicating with whales on the other side of the planet, lol. Smooth, soft feel. Easy on the fingers. Combined with a maple freyboard and im in heaven!
They also look amazing! (espescially over maple fretboard!) Ive had people comment with things like, ' Those black strings are BADASSED!!!'
Now all my basses, except one, sport 88's! I do keep one strung with DR rounds just for variety.
They are a little pricey but they're well worth it.
