The Corvette looks like the paint was removed.

"Shell Pink" was a 1956 Chrysler/De Soto color.

There was also a "rose colored" pink Cadillac color in '56 but not sure it was the same as Shell Pink.

There was a Shell Pink De Soto in our neighborhood when I was growing up.

I swear I remember reading somewhere that the folks at fender took a lot of inspiration from cars. Paint colors, and the chrome pickup covers too.

They obviously did, and more to the point, any color that wasn't "sunburst" was shot with just straight-up car lacquer. Bought right from the car companies.

"Jaguar", "Mustang", hell the name of the company is a part of a car :smug:

Ha Ha. I thought about that. I was gonna say that the ashtrays were supposed to look like car fenders, then I was like - fender was actually his name.

Wasn't it Dupont automotive colors? Fender used those and renamed them to suit their needs. There's a great online article about it. I don't have the link at the moment. Sorry.

Early 60s Vettes are, in my opinion, the coolest they ever made. That one is no exception. It's a very cool car but it looks terrible.

But if that person sells that Vette, will he call it "mint condition" in the ad like people selling Flea basses do?

Of course. Leo's name was fender. How could it be any different.

The rat rod fad is hurting my corneas.

A Corvette is not an appropriate platform for a rat rod.

It's a case of technology transfer. Detroit was doing the Marketing on what colors might be hip in the next couple of years, and working with paint suppliers to make what they wanted. Fender just piggybacked on their work - his business would have been far smaller than the car folks, so asking for them to develop custom colors just for him would've cost him money. One thing that all the Leo stories I've heard have in common was that Leo didn't waste money.

I like how they made the car look rusty in spots. Fiberglass rust?
