Hi all - up for sale is an MIJ 1987 Fender Jazz Bass Special rare factory fretless. This bass absolutely RIPS with a wide variety of available tones from the (all original) PJ pickups and TBX tone circuit. This bass has been well loved over its 33-year life - it’s a players’ bass with a lot of history. See the pics for documented dings and scratches. The rosewood fretboard was recently leveled and pots rewired by an extremely skilled tech (Lane Sparber, @amptech74 on Instagram) in the Queens NYC area. This bass feels solid, but is not heavy like an anchor. Bathroom scale places it right around 9 lbs. It balances well and does not experience neck dive, even with the vintage Schaller D-Tuner on the E-string. The D-tuner drops and returns smoothly. Has micro tilt adjustment screw on neck plate. Truss rod turns smoothly with lots of room in both directions, with no noises/extra resistance. No cracks or signs of stress in the neck pocket. Missing the F caps on the 2 volume knobs, and the rubber knob grip on the neck volume knob. Has some buckle rash on the back near the neck plate, though no scratches through the finish anywhere on the bass. There’s a slight ding on the bottom corner near the input jack, but it does not go through the finish. The bridge finish is a bit tarnished, but holds and adjusts as solidly as new. $650 flat OBO for this piece of bass history. Comes with Fender hard shell case. Would prefer pick up in the Queens NYC area, though will ship within the USA at buyer’s expense. Thanks for your interest! {} {} {} {} {} View attachment 3892373 {} {} {} {} {}
I bought mine new in '88, it's a "mwah" machine. The notes bloom off the fretboard, very expressive. GLWTS
Thanks! Indeed, this bass has a really rich bloom especially when using light vibrato. It’s really versatile - can cop anywhere from a convincing upright tone to aggressive nasal snark.
Putting out positive prosperity vibes for you and all of TB.. so you can buy this bass!! And in general of course
Replied! Definitely sits really snugly in the mix - also can cut right through especially with the J pup engaged/soloed.
