Just curious as to who is using non-bass-specific rackmount pre’s for live performance.

IF I could afford one, I'd have an Avalon 747SP in a hot minute.

I got to play through one once, and it's as indelibly burned into my brain as the first time I played a Bosendorfer grand piano. That tone stack plus their compression was the stuff dreams are made of. A close second would be a Universal LA.

I did for many years (DIY of course), and although I'm retired from gigging now I've been thinking about reviving one of my old DIY ones as part of my primary practice rig since key and guitar synths are both in the mix now.

I’m seeing an interesting array of second-hand mic / instrument pre’s hence the question. I’d like to find one w/ EQ and compressor to dink around with…and price is a consideration.

I had an Ashly DP-200 for a while, it was pretty danged cool. No high Z input though, IIRC.

Ran across a bunch of stuff…some known (Presonus, ART), some unknown (dbx 376).

Neve mic/instrument pre in a 1u rack. Generally studio stuff performs well.

I recently tried this Art pre to put between a power amp and a pedal pre that doesn't have enough output to go straight into the amp, it works really good, hehe :woot::)

Wanting a Toft Audio AFC-2 for myself. The Toft Audio ATC-2 would fit the OP’s description.

Presonus RC500 is still my overall favorite preamp out of all the stuff I've tried.

It's what I get for trying to type on a phone.

I meant the Avalon 737SP, not the 747.

And what Anthony Jackson used with his Meyer Sound cabinets for a live rig, the Millennia STT-1.

For somebody that grew up playing Peavey bass rigs, these are serious overkill. But it's fun to dream.

Lotsa great ideas but, unfortunately, many are beyond my budget. Still nice to look!

I just remembered that I have an extra that I meant to list on TB classifieds!
Anybody have an idea as to what these should sell for?

    Hmm
What is this buck two-eighty code you speak cowboy?
Mine is very quiet and works perfectly.
Really high quality switches with detents that I really like too.

I did 30 years ago, but today there's no reason to do it.

My father-in-law's rather abstract answer when assigning value to an unknown quantity.

Here's what I'm using now...there's a handful still in service and the only piece that I could never sell. People raise an eyebrow and say "what the &^%$ is that?!?".

We embrace the "unconventional" which was enough motivation for the thread. We have tons of free stuff we've salvaged over the years: obsolete rackmount gear, power amps pulled from defunct movie theaters, and analog mixers galore. If something breaks (rarely), we just toss it and pull a replacement from the pile.
