08 P bass Pickup replacement

    Hi all.. dont know if this is covered anywhere else.

    I have an 08 USA P bass - Thinking of swapping the PU.
    Anyone do it?
    bad idea?
    if So what did you get?
    I am looking for something big hot and gritty sounding.

    years ago I had a P with a SD 1/4 Pounder in it...
    it was ok but wondered what else is recommended.
    Maybe the "hot" P bass model?

    I went back and forth thinking I might do this with my Fender P-Bass. In the end I convinced myself that the issue was related to not having a pre-amp and instead installed a Sansamp in the signal path.

    If you can try one of those out first you may be lucky like me.

    Just a suggestion
