My eleven year old grandson just started orchestra in sixth grade. He plays on a half-sized bass at school, but he can't bring it home to practice. I'm looking for a reasonably priced 1/2 half sized bass for home, but it must be within 200-300 miles of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, in order to pick it up.

    Hi,

My 1/2-sized bass is a Schuster, a hybrid with a carved top, perhaps 30 years old, with Spirocore Orch. strings and a good bridge.
It has a lot of sound for its size, a lot of fingerboard left, and a gig bag (useful around the house until Junior starts gigging).
It has a crack below the f-hole on the bass side, but I'm told it'd be easily repairable for about $100.
The bass is in California, but I know a dealer who ships a lot of basses and knows how to pack-and-ship.
Would you consider an out-of-state transaction? If so, what would be a reasonable price?
    Thanks.

For what it's worth, I just read that the dimensions of my bass make it actually a 1/4 size!
    These figures are approximate:
Height (from bottom edge to top of scroll): 61"
Height of body - bottom edge to neck: 37"
    upper bout (shoulders): 17"
mensure (string length, from nut to bridge): 35"

(Bob Gollihur's website says that a 1/2-size bass is only slightly larger:
    65" tall,
    40" body,
    18" shoulders,
    and 38" mensure)

    Thanks.
