1/4 in speaker plug configuration

    When building a 1'4 in speaker cable, is the tip postive or negative?

    Typically, the tip is positive. Be sure of the cabinet that you are plugging into though. If the jack is wired opposite, you may experience some signal loss due to phase. I carry a cable with the tip wired negative just in case, but have never needed it.

  3. Phase is only a problem if you use more than one cabinet. The tradition is to wire the cab so that if you put a 1 1/2 volt flashlight battery across the plug with the positive to the tip of the plug and the negative to the shaft of the plug the speaker cone will move foward (away from the speaker basket).
