1 Last Bass, Need Suggestions!!

So, Here's my situation,
I'm 45 years old, and though typically prefer a 4 String, I usually play a five string.
(Thanks to my guitar player) My musical tastes range from classic rock to Thrash metal.
Well, As I find myself getting older, I find myself with an expanding interest in music styles. I believe I'm best off with a 6 string. my logic being, if I do want to get involved in music where I need it, I have it. (I've owned a six years ago without issue)

So, I here's where suggestions are needed, I'm not well versed in the nuances of bass guitars, woods, pickups, etc..I love exotic woods, I need maximum versatility.
Looking to buy said bass in roughly a year, And my budget will be $3k.
Any and all suggestions, references are greatly appreciated!!!
