You don't need just the blues scales. You should learn the major and minor pentatonic scales too. The blues scale is a minor pentatonic scale with flat five added.

The Mel Bay book suggested above is excellent. I have that with the CD and I just can't praise the book highly enough. It will teach you so much about the blues.

Another book that will help you is "101 Blues Licks for Bass Guitar" with CD.

If your playing SRV also check ou the lighting blues collection for bass. It has about twenty or so of his songs. Make no mistake though Tommy Shannon is a rock solid bassist with dead on time. A little practice on some easier material might be helpful though if you are just staring out.
