12-string guitar in jazz

Discussion in 'Miscellaneous [BG]' started by Peter McFerrin, Jan 26, 2003.

  1. I am infatuated with the sound of 12-string guitar but don't hear it much in a jazz or jazz-leaning context, other than in the work of Ralph Towner (including Oregon) and Pat Metheny. I know Pat Martino made an album on 12-string in the late '60s (Desperado or something like that), but where else has it been used?

...have you checked out Black Oak Arkansas?

Actually, the very 1st "Jazz" album I bought with my own money was George Benson's Bad Benson...he's seen playing a 12-string Guild on the cover(not sure/don't think he used it on this record).

Personally, I'm not a big fan of the 12-string.
