SOLD! 1960 Fender Precision bass. Pre-CBS, 8.2 lbs. Amazing player. 57 years old The Body date is 8/60, the Neck date is 12-60. Original Pickups (10.0k ohms), Tuners, Bridge, Bridge cover, & Pickguard with the metal shield and no cracks. The neck was covered in varnish a long time ago. That has been removed and refinished with a light satin finish. Looks like a “C” neck written in pencil. “Relic” type neck refinish so it doesn’t look like a new neck on an old bass. Almost feels like bare wood, but enough to protect it and keep the wood from getting stained. The trussrod works perfectly. The body was covered in some sort of paint a long time ago, then well worn. Please see the photos for the best descriptions. Replacement parts: The CTS pots are dated 1974. A modern spacing bone nut has been installed to pinch the strings closer and much easier to play. Original nut included. See the original nut photo placed on top for comparison. A replacement StewMac trussrod NUT has been installed. The original was stripped. Original included. “Aged” replacement knobs added. One of the easiest and fastest playing Pre-CBS Precision basses. Thin neck, very low action, and very light weight. Minor fret wear, and an obvious very worn body. New SKB molded case included. $3555 shipped within the continental U.S.

Cool bass! Has the finish been modified/finished unsealed/over-sprayed? It looks like there are coarse sand paper scratches, paint thinner changes, dust, wood pores, and "orange peel" textures in finish. Got pics of the control cavity? Thanks!
I would have no idea what happened to the body of the bass. That was long before I had it. Under the pickups appears untouched. A knowledgable TalkBass member pointed out that the original finish was most likely Sunburst by the pickup cavity. Those cavity pictures were from when I got it. All that dust is long gone. Much cleaner bass now. The neck was sanded only. No paint thinner to remove the varnish. A previous owner probably used course sandpaper before applying the varnish. The neck is very smooth, but those scratches could not be removed without removing too much wood. I don't have any pictures of the control cavity, but if I unbox the bass, I'll take some.
Did you manage to take the covers off the pickups to see which type of wire they are wound with? I'd be curious to see that.
