Up for sale is my pre-CBS 1964 Fender Jazz Bass, the real deal. This is a bit of a read but I want to give the most accurate description possible. I’ve also got a bunch of detailed pics for interested parties. Contact me via pm and I’ll send them.

I bought it 10 years ago from a very reputable shop here in the Twin Cities. It’s one of the coolest basses I’ve ever owned; it’s very resonate unplugged, plays like butter and sounds great too. Best of all, no ski hump! Just a great example from that era.

It’s got a bit of a story. It’s been refinished at least twice but the contours and router hump are still there. I’m guessing the first was a quick job done by a body shop as there’s some purple overspray on the inside of the pickup covers and on the windings. They must have just taped the pickups off and sprayed away. The second was done by the shop I bought it from. They had it completely refinished in Shoreline Gold with matching headstock and then relic’d. They did a pretty nice job but that was in the early days of relicing and the techniques have been refined since then. The pickguard is a replacement, as is the decal. The case is not original. It’s a Fender case from the mid/late 60’s. The hootenanny button is missing, and the output jack was replaced at some point. The rest is original to the bass. Its 8lbs, according to my fairly accurate bathroom scale. I’ll get pot codes as well.

A few other things to note: the first five frets have some wear. I’ve included a pic of those areas. Honestly, it never bothered me enough to have them replaced so I left them. I have the bridge cover but the pickup cover is missing.

I’m asking $6000 shipped CONUS. Paypal is preferred. It’ll ship in a new box and I’ll pack it as securely as possible. Trades are pretty limited as I’m in downsizing mode but I’m open to a few things (+ cash): Fullerton era RI jazz or ‘57 Precision basses, late 80’s-early 90’s Sadowsky 4 & 5 strings, Tyler basses and Barefaced bass cabs. I’m mostly interested in the Super Compact and the Two10S

If you have rounds on that you might want to get the frets crowned, just to keep what's there.

Good call, I forgot that existed. I'll look into getting it done and update the OP once it's done.

Just check the weight, 8lbs according to my fairly accurate bathroom scale.
