Up for sale is my pre-CBS 1964 Fender Jazz Bass. This is a bit of a read but I wanted to give the most accurate description possible. I’ve also got a bunch of detailed pics from all angles for interested parties. Contact me via pm and I’ll send them.

I bought it 10 years ago from a very reputable shop here in the Twin Cities. It’s one of the coolest basses I’ve ever owned; very resonate unplugged, plays like butter and sounds great too. It’s pretty light as well, 8.3lbs on my fairly accurate digital bathroom scale. Best of all, no ski hump! Just a great example from that era. L2XXXX serial number.

It’s got a bit of a story. It’s been refinished at least twice but the original contours and router hump are still there. I’m guessing the first was a quick job as there’s some purple overspray on the inside of the pickup covers and on the bobbins and windings. They must have just taped things off and sprayed away. The second was done by the shop I bought it from. They had it completely refinished in nitro Shoreline Gold and then relic’d. They did a nice job but the relicing isn’t quite as authentic looking as whats being done these days. The mint green pickguard is a replacement, as is the decal. The case is not original, it’s a Fender case from the mid/late 60’s and is in good working condition. The hootenanny button is missing, and the output jack was replaced at some point. The rest is original to the bass, including the black bobbin pickups and Stackpole pots. All pots appear to have code 304-6410. Currently strung with DR HiBeams 45-105.

A few other things to note: It has the “classic” Jazz Bass E tuner crack. It looks like it was repaired many years ago and has been stable and issue free in the 10+ years I’ve owned it. The first five frets have some wear. I’ve included a pic of those areas. Honestly, it never bothered me enough to have them replaced so I left them.

I’m asking $4460+shipping, CONUS only. Paypal is preferred. It’ll ship in a new box and I’ll do my best to pack it as bullet proof as possible. I've got a lot of experience shipping vintage/rare/heavy bass gear without issue so you can be confident it'll arrive safely. Trades are pretty limited but I’m open to a few things (+ cash): Fullerton era '62 RI Jazz or '57 RI basses, late 80’s-late 90’s Sadowsky 4 & 5 strings jazz basses, Alleva Coppolo basses and Barefaced bass cabs. I’m mostly interested in the Super Compact and the Two10S

If you have rounds on that you might want to get the frets crowned, just to keep what's there.

Good call, I forgot that existed. I'll look into getting it done and update the OP once it's done.

Just check the weight, 8lbs according to my fairly accurate bathroom scale.

And a Gibby Mudbucker in the neck position. Yeah, we did that in the 60s.

I spent spent about an hour playing this Jazz last night..man..this thing really sings. I’ve got it set with med-med low action right now and it’s super comfortable to play, almost effortless. It has a really nice resonance to it but whats really cool is that carries over to the amplified sound too..just awesome.
  9. Supa cool
