    Hello,

I just bought a Ampeg Blue line SVT head and matching cabinet.

My Blue line SVT is equipped with 6550 power tubes, is there a tonal difference between the Blue Line SVTs using 6550 and the Blue Line SVTs using 6146 power tubes?

Is one preferred over the other?

Eh, if there is, it's slight. You do get slightly more wattage. Mine has 6146's and I love it. But I also love 6550 SVT's too. Would I change it back to 6146's if it's already been converted? Nah.

Altec 425a's were available as an upgrade since Ampeg and Altec were tied together once upon a time. That's probably what you have.

I guess I'll just have to own both then. Any one selling a Ampeg SVT blue line equipped with 6146?

I could be remembering incorrectly but I thought you were saying a few months ago that your 6146 SVT sounded not-so-slightly different from the 6550 equipped model?

LOL! 4 years later and I still have it. Once I got it restored, I just couldn't let it go!
