This is a 1972 Fender Precision that has, at some point in it’s life, been converted into an active, fretless, PJ. The frets were actually sanded flat, not removed. The active electronics are EMG pickups and an unknown preamp (see pics). I assume it’s an EMG preamp, but have no idea. The controls are vol, pan, and stacked bass/treb. The preamp is noise free. I believe that everything on the bass is original accept for the electronics and bridge.

I received it with the preamp, fretless conversion, and badass bridge already on it. As these basses had pretty thin fretboards to begin with, and someone sanded on this one some, it was pretty thin. To avoid further wear I sent it out to Mo, at Nordstrand Guitars, for a polyester epoxy fingerboard job, and its smooth as glass. He also set up the bass, added a battery compartment cover to the back, and rewired some of the electronics. This bass plays great now and sounds great too. The neck is straight and the fingerboard makes this thing sing. I did not get this bass with a case or gig bag, but have a nicely padded gig bag, that has a broken zipper, to ship it in, just for protection.

The neck stamp says 5 JAN 72. I had a pic of it, from before I sent it to Mo, but cant find it and don’t wan to take the neck off as it was just set up. The serial number on the neck plate confirms that it is a 72 as well.

    1 & 5/8" nut.
    The weight is 9lb.
    Now $1250 shipped. IMG_7665.JPG IMG_7664.JPG IMG_7663.JPG IMG_7662.JPG IMG_7661.JPG IMG_7660.JPG IMG_7658.JPG IMG_7657.JPG IMG_7665.JPG IMG_7664.JPG IMG_7663.JPG IMG_7662.JPG IMG_7661.JPG IMG_7660.JPG IMG_7658.JPG IMG_7657.JPG IMG_7655.JPG IMG_7654.JPG

This looks like the one that Juan Alderete uses with The Mars Volta! Very cool.

    Wow that is stinkin' cool.
If I hadn't just put together a fretless, I'd be all over this.

Truss rod and everything else work as it should?

Absolutely, and the truss rod is still almost flush with the neck heel, meaning it still has plenty of turns left.
