It has a white finish (aged to a cool creamy yellow) with a black pickguard. I believe I am the 2nd owner of the bass, and I can't tell you how great it plays, it has a slim fast neck with nice low action. While it has some player wear, it is a great example of a mid 70's 4001. The finish is yellowed a bit and there are some light dings and dents but its pretty clean all over. The worst is Minor stress separation in finish next to to fingerboard on the E string side spanning the length of the first fret, it is NOT a wood fracture, it is where the fingerboard wood meets the maple of the neck, expanding and contracting must of cracked the finish a bit, you can clearly see the wood is fine upon close examination. I have seen this on 2 white ricks on Ebay and on another ones body, guessing it is just a age/finish issue.

This bass is all original, you will not believe how good these pickups sound. They nail the Ric sound. The guitar was totally taken apart, cleaned and polished the month of August 2016.There is a scratchy sound to the jack, it could just need cleaning but I was looking into replacement. I haven't been able to find the proper rick style jacks online or id just do it myself. If I am unable to replace this prior to a sale I can discount it accordingly.

Photos were taken of the internals to document the originality of it. It was set up and restrung with medium gauge GHS rounds. It Includes a original tolex case, which is in good shape , although it is missing 1 of the 3 latches and worth fixing due to the originality and nice condition of the case.

I am really looking to keep this in the CONUS do to size of the case I don't believe it will fit into most countries size restrictions. If you want to do the leg work and find out feel free to do so.

Wow, that looks just like my old '79 4001, what a great bass that was.

I have a '76 white Ric, and it also has a very similar finish crack on the neck. I've had it for years and it's been super stable. Don't let that keep you from this monster bass.

Mine is a white/white pick guard Ric, but the finish on the bass has aged almost the same way as this one. Great stuff.

  9. Interesting, yet another I have heard of this about.

I do guarantee it is just finish and not wood, it has been checked by a pro to confirm.

A white guard guard would look pretty classy on a white rick of this era, sounds cool

Yep, just posting to mention that I've got an IDENTICAL crack on my 4003 - took it to a shop fearing the worst, assuming I'd need the fretboard reglued and and refinished at least, but the tech said it was in the finish, not the wood, and that there was nothing to repair.
