Serial number 72227008, purchased new April 7 1978. I'm the second owner. A Gibson rep at a guitar show I took it to told me "it was probably made in late '77 from leftover '76 re-issue parts." I can neither confirm nor deny that. The previous owner did not like the red/white/blue 'bird, and painted over it. I never tried to remove the black paint-I did not want to scratch up the pickguard or hurt the bird underneath.
Excellent condition, plays and sounds killer, I still have the original warranty and registration papers!
A similar 'bird sold on ebay for $2400+, here's the link:

I thought I'd give my firends and fellow bass afficianados here first shot. If no one here makes me a reasonable offer, it'll go on ebay with a $1700 reserve. Comes with original hardshell case.

    Pix follow, thanks!

I still have the pupguards! It's never been dropped and repaired, nor even had an extra strap button drilled into it...
Please email me for larger files if you want bigger pix.
