1980 WASHBURN BASS

Discussion in 'Basses [BG]' started by progrockbass, Apr 12, 2009.

  1. Have an opportunity to buy this 1980 one owner Washburn bass for $200. Don't know much about them any information from the TB gurus would be greatly appreciated.

Looks very cool, probably well-made enough to warrant $200 if it's as clean as it looks, as long as it has good frets and no neck issues. Looks like a big neck-diver though.

good chance it was made at the matsumoku factory which IMO makes it a good buy for 2 bills. It IS a neck-diving body style, though, and appears to be one of their low end models. Has it been played recently? If you need to replace the bridge and tuners, it is less appealing

  4. Thanks I'm going to check it out on Tuesday. Owner claims he hasn't played it much at all in the last 25 years.

in that case, try to see how well it stays in tune, and how the tuners feel. there's a fair chance they'll need replacing, which may be worth it depending how much you like the bass. Also, I can't tell, but is that bridge a little rusty?
