Thinning the collection by a few...

1981 Greco Spacy Sound Bass. This of course is from the era when Greco was copying the designs of Fender, Ric, Gibson, etc. Eventually they got sued and stopped, making these fine instruments all the more collectable, not to mention great players. This example has a February 1981 serial number.

It's all original and in very good condition.

    - Solid (no veneer) body with some very pretty grain showing through the sunburst.

    - Trussrod works fine and the bass is setup with fairly low action right now with no buzzing.

    - A nice rosewood fingerboard, bound, with pearl blocks. The frets are in great shape showing only minimal signs of wear. Radius feels a bit flatter than 7.25 but I can't find any specs on these to know for sure. Plays great though.

    - It has Greco tuners that look like the Schallers Fender was contracting in the 70's.

    - Weights about 9.5lbs

They really paid close attention to the details on this bass. It would be most similar to a '73-'74 Fender Jazz Bass.

Here are some pix of the bass:

Will come with no-name hard case.

I have several more pictures I can email interested buyers. Just PM me with a good email address.

Only comps I've found online are in the low 4 digits but I'm just looking to break even if possible.

Asking $[DEL]800OBO[/DEL] $700 shipped to the lower 48.

The ONLY trades I'd be interested in would be for a quality stick EUB like NS Design or Ergo.

Well there is a bunch of wrong info out there and debated on who was actually sued. To the best information I have Ibanez was the only actual company sued by Gibson during the lawsuit era from the late 70’s early 80’s. In Japan during the late 70’s and early 80’s there were several guitar makers that decided to copy/replicate the great old Gibsons and Fenders from the 50’s. They actually had vintage guitars, pretty much copied them very very closely and sold those guitars to high end guitar buyers in Japan. There were several makers and ALL of them made really good copies. Ibanez,Tokai,Greco,Burny,Fernandes were the biggest and most well known. Not only are their guitars very accurate in feel, quality wood and construction methods were used. Good quality parts, tuners and pickups were used. If you put a Gibson logo or Fender logo on them you could fool many people except the experts in guitar identification.? The goal was to reproduce the best American made guitars from the golden era, the late 50’s and make them affordable to the high end Japanese markets. They are some of the best guitars ever built from playability to attention to detail to tone, at a time when the Amercian guitar makers were making a poor quality product.
