Hey guys, I was looking around the net and found a guy selling a MIJ 57 reissue made in 1987 for 980$. He hasn't emailed me back so I cant tell you the serial number but I just want to know if any of you are familiar with this model and if it is worth the money or not.
Honestly $980 is on the high end for a 1987 US made reissue. They sell regularly for around $900. For a MIJ model I would think $600 would be more appropriate.
As Johnny said. I sold one Identical to that here last year for 500$ , it needed a set up and had some minor wear but pretty clean. I notice your in canada so currency amounts differ but not that much.
If I was trading a FrakenJazz and really liked the Precision I might go as much as $150 on top of the Jazz because the Fender will hold it's value and maybe even gain some. A frakenstein Fender is a hard sell so value wise you might make out. But $300? No way. I guess that depends actually. What parts are on the frakenjazz?
Ill list them here Neck: Mighty Mite Body: American Standard Pickups: EMG X Vintage Tuners: Grovers Bridge: Hipshot J All these parts except for the Tuners are made in the USA
Thats a bass worth about what you said, 500$.I know you could part that out for around 500$. Thus I personally would probably only wanna do a straight trade since I sold one for 500$ but Id maybe kick in 100$ if the P caught my fancy.
The guy originally offered his 1988 Power Jazz Bass Special to me but now wants to trade his P Bass instead
A power jazz special is worth less then that P bass actually.I have seen countless power jazz bass specials sit at 400$.They have went up in price but not much. No matter where they sell I bet the average price on those is 400$.That P in clean shape is at least worth 500$, I cant say the same about the power JBS.
Parted out...maybe. As a whole I think $500 is a tad hopeful for a parts bass with a Mighty Mite neck. If i liked the bass I would go up to $150. That would be it though. Expecting $800 or more for his MIJ reissue is just crazy.
Yeah I wasnt factoring shipping-paypal fees etc, so your right 500$ is a stretch. 150$ plus your bass seems pretty reasonable if the P is clean. If you like it I would do it , those P basses are sweet. I would buy mine back for 500$ if given the chance.
That's good knowing that the P is worth more. I will try to get him to go for 150$ but no more. Im only 16 so I probably couldn't get 300$ anyways
That's a lot of $$ for that bass, especially in that color combo. Also, while it may be a '57 reissue of sorts many wouldn't consider it an true reissue. They can still be great basses, just not worth what that seller is asking.
Yeah, that blackie...one could get that bass for $450 on Ebay twice a week. I'd say the range is a low $400-$550 or so. The price he's asking - I would laugh at him. You can get two for that price.
And that's not even really a reissue at all, just a standard mij,had one exactly like it,its actually the pic in my Sig , they are fine basses but I wouldn't pay more than 450, you could get a real mij 62 ri p bass for not much more.
Yep. Thats not even a reissue. The reissue would have the pre-CBS style spaghetti logo on the headstock. That's just a regular old MIJ P bass. Maybe worth $500, tops.
It's probably a "PB-557", I do believe they were marketed as being a '57 "style reissue" or vintage style bass, at that time Fender Japan was offering a lot of modernish looking PJ's with non-traditional colors and no pickguards. I also believe that the PB-557's only came in classic colors(B, W, 3TSB & CAR mainly) and had "full sized" tuners as well. Sort of a reissue, but not in the true sense.
