Here we have a rare bird - 1987 Rickenbacker 4003s, mapleglo with black hardware. As you can see in the detailed pics, it is in EXCELLENT shape with minor dings and wear. It plays and sounds great and is just an exceptional bass. It comes with a perfectly functioning hard case that I assume is the original as it looks 30 years old as well. It's going to need new strings as this has spent most of the 10+ years I have had it in the case. Here is a link to more pics: Rick 4003s 87 Mapleglo Slideshow by Andy Andy

    $1800 shipped to CON US.

  7. this is soooooo tempting. My biggest regret bass was my 1987 Mapleglo with black hardware 4003. It was stolen in Randolph NJ in 89 :( If this wasn't an S, at that price, I'd be all over it!

    Good luck on the sale!

I've gone back and eyed this listing several times, a seemingly very fine example.
But, needing to ask... what is with the lighter/darker half of the headstock, same body top? Almost a defined line between the differing shadings.
Or was this just a matter a lamp shade or something affecting the photos?

Also, I find it a shame the bridge itself isn't black like the rest of the hardware. Does anyone know if a black replacement bridge exists or is attainable?

  11. The defined dark/light line in the headstock pic is just a shadow. Not sure if they make a black version of the silver part of the bridge. I have honestly never noticed it. Be sure to click on the link for more pics and you'll see that shadow gone and what the bass looks like as a whole.

GLWTS ( I'm glad this was an 87, because if it was an 86 I would be extremely tempted to buy it, and I'm kinda broke right now)

So killer! Can you tell me what the neck is like? How wide is the string spacing?

  17. Thanks! The nut is 1 5/8 so a skinny neck. I'll try to get string spacing tonight.
