    you know the bass.

now just think of it as actually handmade and
made of only bubinga and wenge.
    no ovangkol.

    neck thru.
    brass nut.
    emg pickups.
    2 band MEC eq.
    schaller strap locks, carved headstock.

    it is completely stock
(except the strings, and one strap lock :rollno:).

the new ones sound hi-fi. this era sounds dark
    and woody. much better IMHO.

    comes with original gig bag
(even has the sticker from '89 on it).

plays great, sounds great, looks great.
I actually think it looks a bit ugly, but that's
part of the charm of the old 'wicks.

1988 was the first year that warwick used the
two piece bridge, and were actually made of
brass unlike the newer ones made of a composite.

balances very well, and has a slim (yes, slim)
    7 piece wenge/bubinga neck.

    pics can be found here

The bass has been cleaned since the pics,
which were taken when I first got it, so it's
    a bit shinier now.

if you'd like a pic of anything specific,
    let me know.

    thanks for looking

  2. Does this one have the 18v or 9v preamp? Interested in a Warwick Thumb 5 B.0. 2005 model?

bump - it has a 9v preamp. the 3 band EQ's had 18v for a while, but they don't have any more headroom than the newer 9v, which is simply an efficiency upgrade.

What are those two "dots" on the back of the neck behind the nut?

    I have no idea.

I am the third owner of the bass,
and the guy I got it from told me
they were there when he got it in 1995.

I haven't had any issues with it, nor have
I even thought about it until now.

There isn't any repair work evident.

... this is my dream No. 2 (to go with my G&L L-2000). Too bad I'm currently only partially employed; I'd take it off your hands in a nanosecond otherwise.

Bump for some thumb-tastic wenge-and-bubinga-only lovin'.

I had an '88 Thumb that was pretty much the "twin" of this one. I sold it to someone in San Diego, CA (IIRC) back around 2000.

I can vouch for the fact that the necks on these late '80's Warwicks are ultra slim compared to the rounded off chunks of baseball bat that most 'wicks come with nowadays. :p

Another bump for a bass that is sure to make someone a real happy camper!
