1990 Jazz Bass Special Model..

Any of you have experience with the Early 90's American Jazz Bass Special basses? I got a used one for $400 yesterday and i love it's flexibility and sound. It has the lace sensor pickups and an extremely flexible preamp (push/pull active and passive), a really nice, beefy bridge, and a maple fretboard. It's really quite light and smaller than the traditional fender.. anyone know why it was discontinued? This is my first experience with a maple fretboard and I love it. I find myself actually boosting the bass and cutting the highs quite heavily and still getting a very smooth, articulate tone. Pickup noise is minimal well.
