I got this bass used and was wondering if the woods are the same as the new stingrays? Is it poplar? ash? I'm not sure if they had options for body woods either.. Whatever it is, it sounds pretty good, and is somewhat light.. My guess is poplar, but if anyone knows, fill me in
The body wood depends on the finish. Is the body painted a solid color, or does it have a see-thru finish?
Actually, it depends on the color, also. From what I gather, they use 3 different woods in their basses. Now, which woods equal which colors? I'd love to know!
Music Man basses are made of one of 3 different body woods: 1) Ash (on Natural finish, Some trans finishes) 2) Alder (most trans finishes, some solid) 3) Poplar (only on solid color) Chances are, the bass you have is Poplar. One way to tell most of the time is weight. If it's on the heavy side, it's probably Poplar. If it's lighter, then it's probably Alder. You can always email Ernie Ball and ask any of their customer service reps. Just send them the serial #.
I know this is very old thread, but I don't wanted to create new one for just one question- do you know which body wood is this stingray? ash? or maple?? Thanks for opinions.
