This is a common issue on the backs bending up over time. Are there any aftermarket models that don't require modifications (which I avoid like the plague)? I was going to try a Hipshot Kickass, as the screw pattern looks similar....
I would find the aftermarket bridge which really complements the bass then bite the bullet...plug and re-drill. Don't settle for something less-desirable just because the screw holes line up. The KickAss is a great option even if it doesn't align perfectly. Riis
I had the bridge on my SR505 bend a few years back. I thought maybe someone had dropped it, but I realized it was far more likely that I was experiencing a bridge failure like other Ibanez players had. I replaced it with the stock part, however, and never had a problem since then. I would be careful using aftermarket bridges. You can fundamentally change the geometry of the instrument and you could be looking at a neck shim to get it to play right again.
Hmmm, interesting about the bridge warning. It's a neck-thru, so shims aren't an option. Where'd you get the replacement bridge, directly from Ibanez? Not sure if they'd carry such an old part.
I was thinking, if I can't locate a stock replacement, to do like @Zooberwerx said, to just have the holes filled, and drill new ones. I do have a Hipshot A bridge laying in my parts pile, same string spacing (17mm model, even though adjustable), and those baseplates are as slim if not slimmer on the G than the stock one. That's the only string that I wouldn't mind getting a touch lower, but for what I paid, the bass is phenomenal.
