That was the one I learned at my 1st lesson. I knew a few bits of songs before then, but that was the 1st whole song.

I learned the bass line to about a thousand songs at once. You know which one, that generic I-IV-V progression you hear on "Good Golly, Miss Molly", "Johnny B. Goode", "Dizzy Miss Lizzy", "Boys", "Long Tall Sally", "Blue Suede Shoes"; you get the idea. And if you played it real slow, you were playing the blues! biggrin.

    Will C. cool.

You can't hold no groove if you ain't got no pocket!

  7. Smoke on the Water
I IV V patterns and thats all I needed to know for a very long time!

    Was "White Room" from Cream.

I only had it on lp, and am still proud that I
found then out wat he was playing.
I had just started playing in a coverband.
Unfortunatelly, our drummer quit so I
    never played it on stage.

Ooops : first thing I really ever found out
    was Bro Hymn from Pennywise.

I started in church, so's it was 99% that I-IV-V thing.. went straight to originals with buddies, then learned my first cover at 14 or 15 - 'You Really Got Me' - the Van Halen version..

Smoke On The Water - Deep Purple... smile.
  13. I started learning bass lines off a practice book. The first thing I ever learned was something similar to "Smoke on the Water."

But the first professional, "real" song I learned how to play note for note was a Guns'n'Roses tune called "My Michelle." It actually went up to like the 11th fret on the G string. I thought I was so badass when I learned that. smile.

"Guerilla Radio" By Rage Against the Machine. I started playing RIGHT when it came out. It wasn't the song that made me start though. That honor belongs to "around the world" By Red Hot Chili Peppers (whyymust their name be so long?) Still getting the hang of it, but its' fun
