Lately I've been playing ALOT more and it looks like things are going to stay that way (thank God!!!) lol... BUT...I'm getting tired of lugging my ~100lb 4x10 cab around everywhere so I'm thinking about selling the 4x10 and getting a neo 1x12. Most of the places we play at have PA support so I could just use the 1x12 as a personal moniitor and also go through the system if needed. For the places that don't have PA, I could just bring my 2x10 as well. In theory all of this *sounds* like a good idea but I often wonder if a) the 1x12 will be loud enough for me to hear myself (usually play with an organ, keys, & drums) and b) The 1x12 + 2x10 will be able to kick out as much sound as the 4x10 Can anyone offer any advice? Will the !x12 + 2x10 be able to kiick out as much "umph" as the 4x10? Thanks, J
It depends on the 112 and 210 you get. However, I would think that you can het what you need from the 2 together.
Get the cab up off the floor---or tilted back with an amp stand---and you'll hear yourself. A caution: Using different speakers for the same frequency range (they're both fullrange) is a crapshoot. They can sound bad together when you get out into the house. So you'll want to listen first before committing to the mixed speakers.
Have you given any thought to another 2x10. You can use one 2x10 for monitoring or stack both and you got your 4x10 back when you need a rig. IMO tens are the best size speakers in playing out against a screaming organ leslie.
I probably should've mentioned this before but my 2x10 is by Avatar and the 1x12 would be an Aguilar GS112 or Avatar SB112. Getting a 2x12 would be nice but another issue with that would be fitting it in my car (mustangs and large cabs don't seem to mix well lol). I never really gave much thought to getting another 2x10 but that's an option worth looking into. I may try taking my 2x10 with me sometime just to see how it would do as a stand alone (elevated) since I know 2-2x10 cabs would work. Any other insight/opinions/praises/horor stories? Thanks, J
Not quite. a 1x12 and a 2x10 will never put out as much overall volume as a solid 4x10 IME. a 2x12 or 2x1x12 + 2x10 might get you there. If you are tired of hauling a 100 lb. 4x10 I recommend one of the lighter neo-loaded 4x10s out there. Less money: Carvin, GK, Avatar, Hartke [has new neo cabs out] More money: Epifani, Bergantino, Markbass, EBS [I'm assuming]
