After looking at this http://www.traynoramps.com/products.asp?type=3&cat=63&id=252 I tought a 2 channel, one for clean/one for distortion, all tube bass amp would be cool. After reading post after post and seeking through most of the big brands webpage, I couldn't find on that wasn't hybrid. Any info or post I should read???
I think the Mesa D180 fits the bill. It was made for guitar or bass, and I believe it had two channels.
Ok I really feel dumb Bassman 300 would definitely work I have heard that with the SVT-VR you can run run channel distorted and another clean and if you use a patch cable you can run them both together.
thanks for the info. I'm playing clean most of the time and the only effect I'm using is distortion from time to time. I think this amp configuration fits me.
LOL..... 3-Position ROCKER Switch!!!!! http://www.ampeg.com/products/classic/svtvr/index.html Someday I like to rock like this and other day I like to rock like that
There tons of rocker switches on the older SVT's and even the V4's and whatever. I honestly think the VR is one of the best heads i have played through, would i own one? No I have an SVT (SVT-II) that sounds probably closer to a 70's SVT then the VR.
The Aguilar Ag500 would also fit the bill. Even though it's SS, it's very warm, fat and tubey, and has a killer overdrive channel. Two rack space, 500 watts.. wonderful for your application IMO.
just saw this. looks good but the distortion channel doesn't impress me. I have to say I never played through an all tube amp.
the aguilar looks perfect but I was really looking for an all tube amp. I never owned one and I'm trying to learn how tube amps works.
IMO, I don't think an SVT-II sounds closer to a 70's SVT than the VR. After replacing the preamp tubes, my new VR sounds exactly like my vintage SVT. Not close-exactly like it.
I wish amp manufacturers would start making more 2-channel amps. OK, most of us don't need two channels, but a lot of people like having two channels for effects. I love it. Sounds much better than an effects loop. You could change the tone of the 2nd channel and really make those effects sound gnarly without interfering with the basic clean sound.
Slightly off topic, but what about those who want to use the same amp for electric and double bass in the same set? That is one of the huge benefits I see to those old Ampeg heads. Two channels are a great bonus in those situations.
Ya, I've done that, but you better remember to unplug the upright when you're not using it or it'll start howling like a sonumagun!
