I had a really cheap Ibanez with 2 up-side-down P's in it. I picked it up because it was the cheapest playable bass in the local store the paycheck after my Ric 4003 MapleGlo got stollen in 89.

It was actually a great sounding bass. Full and nasty as h311 with both pickups on. I'd buy and play a dual P again if the right one came along

  5. B.C. Rich makes some basses with the dual P setup. I think the Mockingbird is configured that way.

Well, techinically, a lot of basses might have them. Soapbar pickups is only a size/shape. Whatever is under the cover is up to the manufacturer. So, instead of the "typical" Split P, tou also have the spoapbar P, which, while it looks different, has the same guts as a regular P pup.

    the Peavey TL-6 had 2 P Pickups. Here's a pic.

It sounded darn good. I think there's one in the classifieds right now. ;)

  9. I've owned many basses with a double P configuration. My all time favorite is my Electra. It's 18v preamp might not have the broad range of an early BC Rich but but what it does provide, IHMO is more usefull. From woofy bass to punchy mids to tank tone highs, it's a tone monster. It's also in the process of being refinished ;)

  10. Some Warwicks have had them,in particular the JE Buzzard.

  11. How do you find it working for slap n pop/funk? I ask because Alain Caron gets some killer tones on his F with 2 P-type pups.

    I've got one or two:)

The basses are pretty much beefier in sound than one that has a Jazz pick up in the bridge

As for funk and slap-It never did Bernard Edwards any harm in Chic:)

Fender also made a double-P model in the early '80s--the Elite II, I believe?

Not to steal the thread but, FLKknifemaker, is that a cool bass? I actually have that exact bass that i havent touched in years. Its been in the "ill fix it when i have time and money" pile for 4 or 5 years now. I have a lot of nice basses so I just never got to it. It does seem like it would sound good.

I used to have pics of a '91 Modulus Jazz with 2 p-bass pickups and a silver sparkle paint job; that was a hell of a cool looking bass!

I had a dual P BC Rich Eagle but they were EMGs. I like the sound of EMGs but can't say that it was special in any way. Reliable and consistent tone, definitely.

I had 5 Fender Precision Elite II basses unitil recently. Very well made basses. I sold 4 of them, to a gentleman who collects nothing but Precision Elite basses. I kept one. Great gigging basses. Punchy as heck, and a very nice range of tones.
