A tapered piece of pipe. I use my old tuba mouth piece. ;)

A Chapstick tube, or an appropriate sized socket piece. I always use a rubber handled screw driver to bang it out. Hammers and other hard items can create more impact, which can possibly fracture the wood. Especially on more stubborn bushings.
