I have a 2008 American Standard Jazz that came with Fender Alnico V pickups. Since 2012, Fender has put Custom Shop '60s pickups on their standard. Does anyone have a description of the difference between the two?
I have Custom Shop 60s installed on my Geddy Lee jazz bass. The sound difference between the CS60s and the Geddy stock pickups is obvious. The CS60s have more growl, more low end to them than the Geddy pickups. IDK about mids...my ears suck at listening to the mids. I'd say, if you're looking into the CS60s, get them. They're well worth the money.
Weird, I put CS -60'S on my Fender FSR Jazz bass with ash body and was shocked at how bright they were. Took them off and put Aguilar pickups on and love the tone. Still scratching my head about the loss of low end and lifeless bright tone of the CS-60's.
.. to maybe help broaden the target audience for your inquiry, the pups in your '08 AmStand Jazz should be the 33746/53 set that was also used in the early AmStand (94 1/2- 2000), and for the entire run of the American Series (2000-2008), so there may be more out there that are able to give you a comparison to the current AmStands that are using the CS pups ...
I was just wondering what the outputs were between the two. It sound like the Custom Shop 60's have a pretty high output. I just didn't want to get something with a lower output than I already have.
Could it be a good upgrade installing Fender CS '60s on a 2008 Jazz Am Std who comes with stock ones or do they sound almost the same?
