is it just me or do the newer American standard jazz basses sound different than say the 90s fender jazz basses that have the original style fender bridge. It seems like every fender bass I've played with the high mass bridge soynds a bit different than the earlier fender basses with the original bridge. I have a 2011 fender American standard jazz 4 string and it seems like it's harder to get a tight snap and pop out of it than my 96 jazz bass I had. That burp just doesn't seem to be there. Or it's like I can get that tone but not as easily or as naturaky as I coukd with my 96 American jazz. I'm actualy thinking of returning the bass but then again I think it may gave sumthing to do with the ampeg BA 115 100 bass amp I'm using. Not the new v2 series but the older original. That amp is great for fat low end but that's about where it ends. U can very the mids also but it lacks crisp treble big time. I want O try my jazz thru the ampeg ba210 v2 combo and see if that brings back the familiar jazz bass tones I'm used to. Before I was playing my jazz thru a peavey basic 60 with a 12 inch speaker and I think it actuaky soynded way better than the ampeg. At least with the jazz and my pj basses.

A lot of factors go into why a bass sounds the way it does. Without thorough and objective testing you can't really determine if the bridge is making a difference. It's more likely you're hearing what you're expecting to hear. We all do it. Confirmation bias makes more of a difference than any bridge.

  3. I replaced the bent plate bridge on my 08 MIM with the Fender high mass bridge....sounds the same. Looks cool though!!!LOL
