At BHF, we receive a number of donated instruments throughout the year that we loan to students. Every once in a while, someone donates a really nice instrument that we either raffle or sell outright. This is one of those instruments. Brought to us by an older lady who wanted to learn to play guitar is this 2012 Ebony Gibson Dove acoustic guitar with saddle pickup. She paid $3300.00 for it at Fullers Vintage Guitar in Houston and it has barely been played. As a result of living its life in Houston, we think the guitar may have been over-humidified at one time because there are signs of shrinkage of the glue joints on the neck. You can see in the pictures that the back of the peghead has some shrinkage. There is also a slight amount on the back of the neck where the 3 pieces of wood used to make the neck where glued together. This resulted in a hairline crack in the lacquer finish (not the wood) in that area. These are minor cosmetic issues only that could be touched up by a luthier and may diminish after being properly humidified after awhile. No structural damage that we can find. The ncek feels great. The guitar plays great and sounds wonderful. No scratches or dings anywhere. These ebony colored Dove's are very limited in production and hard to find. A new one today will cost you over $4200.00.
