Stingray Special 4H in Jet Black finish. F777 serial number indicates 2018 production, which should also indicate swamp ash body (and so denoted on the GC sale tag). I rarely buy new basses at GC, let alone on impulse, but it happened here. I went to local GC looking for an acoustic bass and saw this hanging on the wall.....hit by "the thunderbolt" (Godfather reference) I roared home, grabbed some trade bait and went back to make the deal. It had some fret sprout from hanging on their wall, so I made the sale contingent upon their tech cleaning that up, which they did nicely. Since then, it's mostly been a "case queen", rarely leaving my house, so condition is still very nice. I installed Schaller strap locks, but originals are included. For increased stealthiness, I had Chandler make a custom pickguard in 1-ply matte black. Original B/W/B guard is also included, along with the factory "goodie" bag and tools, etc. I strung it with Labella Golds which may not be the intuitive choice, but the versatile electronics available on the Special make them really sparkle. Bass weighs a comfortable 8lbs, 5 oz and balances nicely on a strap. Price drop to 1500 shipped and Paypal'd to the lower 48 - please, no trade offers as I have way too much stuff already and this sale is part of a downsizing effort.
Very nice!!! Can’t believe this is still here, EBMM hit it out of the park with these specials!!! Wish I had sold my Pbass. GLWTS!!!
Thanks! That last bump was pretty much last call on this one......I'd been debating whether I really wanted to let it go that cheap anyway. Played it for awhile last night and came to realize why I bought it in the first place. Shame it'll probably never get any real gig-time at this point, but it sure looks pretty sitting in the case so I'll put it away for now at least
Probably a tangent, or at least a good topic for another thread, but I do love a bass that is resonant....you know that nice tingly feeling, like it's talking to you. I played all 4 Stingrays they had in the store at the time and while the others were nice, they didn't feel like this one. Even with the sharp frets, this one was "alive" compared to the others - that day, I just wanted to play one because of all the buzz here about the Specials, but I had no real intentions of buying one.....I was there to look at the Guild mini-acoustics, but wound up with the EBMM. Never did get that Guild
