I've had this for a couple of years (bought on ebay from a small music shop down south). While my fretless basses are 100% boutique, this bass has remained my primary fretted.

I've been curious about its origins. The flamed maple top and glued-on pickguard are a significant departure from the typical ray before or since.

I've got a maple necked 20th. Great basses. There were about 740 maple necked ones made, about 450 rosewood boards, and less than 50 lined and unlined fretless models. The body came either flamed or quilted.

has EB ever done another laminated top? the current anniversary specials all seem closer to standard construction.

The current anniversary, 20th SR5, is a laminate top.
  5. Those are VERY SEXY! The wood and pickguard compliment each other perfectly IMO.

Indeed, and fine basses they are.

When Ernie Ball decides to do a nice top, they do it very well.

I too found this one on ebay. Great fretless. I didn't know they made so few of these.

    Reviving this thread a bit...

Does anyone know the going price on a 20th Anniversary 4 string Stingray? I have the chance to buy one...but I don't want to get screwed on price either. Thanks!
