I have a Peavey Tour 700 Head and a GK NEO 212-II. Now i have the chance to buy a used Hartke AK115 cab. Would it match the NEO212? I've read here in TB that mixing cabs isn't good?
Try it. But also try a pair of matching 212's next to it if you can, and get at least 20-30 feet from your rig when you do. There may be a chance that you like the sound. For me there are plenty of other reasons to not mix cabs.
That would be what I would recommend, and what I would go with if I was running a GK 212. There are others that would recommend you pair it with the 115, or the 112, or a squirrel, or a breakfast pastry.... I'm sure they have their reasons.
another 212 would be my vote. I just bought a Neo 412 and its a killer cab. Theres a number of guys in the GK thread running a 112 on top of the 212 but you need to be careful of that 112.
Oh gawd here we go again! The mixed driver haters will get all righteous acting, the guys with mixed drivers and a great tone will weigh in and that'll will get the snoots bent, and then the admins will close the thread. It'll probably sound great....try it and see if you like it. I've used 2x10 & 1x15 for years and love it. (to the OP- I mean none of this snarkiness towards you, it's a legit question )
I couldn't care less about the mixed drivers, but not knowing that amp, will it play well with a 4 ohm 212 and an 8 ohm 112 in parallel? (2.67 ohms) Raf
Actually, I'm kinda wondering about using the crossover in my BX1500 with a Faital loaded 15, and a Faital loaded 210/tweet cab. Probably doesn't make a lot of sense, and I wouldn't know where to set the crossover, but, both models of Faitals ( Pro series ), sound very much alike.
Bless you for saying this correctly. Very few understand. And I mean very, very few. Fewer still even care.
Reeeally? Can you elaborate? I've used mixed driver sizes a lot, so I am interested in this topic—though I have found my favorite to be my several fEARful 15/6/1 cabs.
This would work, IF the 212 cab really is 4 ohm AND IF it has the same drivers/approx. cab geometry as the 8 ohm 112 AND IF the amp can do 2.67 ohms. A lot of IFs.
