What do I need to know to make an informed choice here? I'm wiring up a jazz bass from scratch and there's a few options; firstly, what's the difference between these pots? Second, kits come with different capacitors, what and why?

As always, TB advice is welcome.

I grow organic carrots and they are not for sale
For a jazz bass the norm is 250k ohm pots.

  3. Higher resistance pots give a hair more high end.

Higher value capacitors give lower frequency cutoff points than lower value capacitors, and vice-versa.

The tradition is 250k audio tapers for all pots, and a 0.047uf capacitor of any non-polarized type.

With hum-cancelling J pickups, I prefer 500k volume pots, and a Fender TBX tone control.

This allows more "clarity" if needed, IME.
