I broke the shaft off a tone pot on my onboard pre and i need to replace it. Im pretty sure its a 25k (i can see a '2' under the ground soldering) but while looking for a replacement, ive found 25k and 50k. Will this make a difference in an active circuit? I know the whole 250/500k passive circuit thing.. will this work the same? Also, is it linear or audio im after? (once again i know the difference between linear and audio pots, just dont know which one i need). Ps: done a search but im still at somewhat of a loss Secondly (and less importantly), does anyone know where i can get either 25k pots or 50k pots with a center dent in Australia or elsewhere? Every local guitar supplies place i look up only has 25k pots without the center dent. And anywhere else costs $30USD minimum to ship. Thanks
you will need the measure the resistance across the two outer lugs on the pot to check the value. and yes on an active system it is very important to use the correct value. try these places for replacements. i ask about where to buy center click pots and a few forum members were kind enough to post these links. http://www.bestbassgear.com/pots.htm http://www.guitarpartsdepot.com/100K_Pots-100K_Pot_Audio_Taper_Center_Click.html http://www.guitarpartsdepot.com/100K-100K_Pot_Linear_Center_Click.html
Sorry its been a while but im still unsure. If i replaced all the tone pots on the pre that were different to the ones originally on there, would this be an issue on the preamp itself? Im pretty sure the pots are log pots (i see an 'A' under the soldering aswell). If i dont find any center dent pots locally, can i just use ones without the center dent and be boost only? Should i be going 25k or 50k?
what brand bass and preamp is it? maybe someone will be able the help out if we know more info. the only other solution i know is to unsolder the pot and measure it with a multimeter.
I dont know the brand, its some no-name brand pre i got from a guitar shop.. works well though. If i find out the resitance of the existing pot, can i still use the pots without center dent?
I wish I could help you out a little more. Why don't you go to bestbassgear.com, go to the contact us link and ask them? Personally, I would just get the 25k w/o the detents that you can get for cheap down under and try it out.
