Are there any 2x12" bass cabs that are not terribly expensive? I know there are the big expensive ones, but they are just to expensive. Lee
SWR has a 2x12 combo (+tweeter) called the Silverado. I've been looking into buying it sometime, looks nice.
Nemesis, the 'budget-line' of Eden makes one: http://www.eden-electronics.com/N212P.html Budget-line may sound negative, but I've only heard good things about Nemesis. Matthias
I'm interested in finding a side by side 2x12 or 2x10 cab rated 4 Ohms on the cheap I'm starting to get the feeling tho that I'll have to build one (Or at least get an empty cab and add speakers etc from scratch ) has anyone done this? can you offer advice? How much will this cost approx (Pounds Sterling please, that is GBP)? Er Well yeah... HELP
Building a good, properly tuned bass cabinet is not easy. You can throw together some dirty hack but chances are that it will sound pretty bad, and more or less be a waste of money and work. TB user Joris is famous around here for his cabinet-building, and I think there are some others who have built their own as well... bgavin? I believe (I'm too lazy to check for myself) bgavin has some software on his website that will calculate proper dimensions to a cabinet with regards to the speaker elements you want to have in it.
I too was in your shoes a while back, there are many factors that you must learn before you build like thiele/small numbers and there meaning and how they affect your cab design. The t/s numbers are parameters for a given speaker and come from the manufacturer and these numbers are what will determine the size and tuning of your cab. There is a great thread called "cabinets 101" I believe check it out and read the whole thing.
Ok then what about the easy option, Buying one either 2x12" or 2x10" I need a Company Name (if Poss URL) and cost in GBP Purlease
http://www.ofgb.org/reference/Musicians Reference.xls This link is on my site and contains a boat load of useful information. The DRIVERS tab has a quick and dirty configuration for both ported and sealed cabinets for each driver I have catalogged. Also on my site in the reference section is Perfect Box as perf456.zip which has all the spread sheet drivers, and more, and allows you to play with box sizes, tuning, and see the frequency response. It runs fine in a Windows DOS box. http://www.ofgb.org/reference/Music/Speaker Engineering/perf456.zip I suggest you buy rather than build, unless you have a lot of building experience, all the construction tools, and the knowledge and equipment to properly tune and test the box. It is very time consuming work and without any instant gratification.
Genz-Benz makes an inexpensive 2-12 that is pretty good. I've been using it for about a year and it has done fine for the most part.
my friend got one last oct. . awesome bass amp. great tone, its not quite 15" not quite 10", a lot of the same features of the Super Redhead ( only less $$$ ), sweet lookin, and really loud!
I've just ordered a Eden 2-12xlt.......should be here next week some time. Not Cheap !!! but I needed a smaller cab for those smaller clubs where my 6-10 Goliath sr is just too much. I'll post a report when I get it. -Peter
