SOLD 3/4 Gruenert Bass from 1980

    A well maintained 3/4 (bordering on 7/8) size by German builder; Gruenert. www.gruenert.com

    Bass was built in 1980, I bought it used in Norway in the mid-90s.
    Mainly been used for classical playing and sounds stellar for that, but it would also be a great bass for jazz etc.


    Pick up in Brooklyn.
    Asking price $6500

    European maple neck, belly, and ribs with a spruce top plate.

    this may me an ignorant question, but what designates this as 4/4?

    from the measurements this looks like a pretty standard 3/4, no?

    just curious. cool bass regardless.

    You have a point, I also think it's more like a 7/8 or 3/4, the reason I initially wrote 4/4 was that when I sent photos of the bass to Gruenert himself to have him identify the model, he said it was his 4/4 model from the 80s.. so I just put that up here.. going to change it.. thanks for the heads up :)

    I have a 4/4 model grunert bass from '82. It is a cannon! I believe he calls it his 4/4 model because the lower bouts are quite large (yet the upper bouts are very modest for playability)... also the bass ribs are pretty thick. And all of his string lengths are 105cm.

    Nice looking instrument. Too bad it isn't closer to me. I bet it would be a good jazz bass. GLWTS
