3 basses for sale! Alembic Distillate, Alembic Essence, MMSR4. Also a Boss GT-6B!

Discussion in 'For Sale: Bass Guitars' started by Juggernaught, Sep 27, 2008.

  1. Still available:
    Fretless Alembic Essence 5
    MMSR4 Lined Fretless

The only types of trades I would consider involve a Fodera (not NYC), walnut or mahogany body. Got to try a Emperor Deluxe 4 and now have some of the GAS.

No international buyers unless you have good feedback.

All the pics can be found here:

    SOLD:
    Alembic Distillate
    Boss GT-6B

  2. Mahogany body, spalted maple top with a thin layer of purple heart in between. Condition is at least 9.8/10. There is a tiny ding on the front that you can only see in certain light. I'm not even sure it's not a flaw in the top/finish. Ebony fingerboard has a very small amount of wear. Comes with a case (not soft, not really hard).

    Specs:
    MXY 5/6 pickups
    Gold Gotoh tuners
    Brass Hardwear
    Brass half-moon tailpiece
    Bronze logo
    Comfort taper
    Bronze side dots
    34" scale
Neck through body, 5 Maple w/4 Walnut veneers
    Fingerboard: Ebony
    1.875 nut width
    2.930 24th fret width
    17 mm spacing (at bridge)
    Dual truss rods
    ~10 lbs
Controls: Volume, Pan (continuous pickup selector), and Low Pass Filter

I'm asking for $2,200 shipped CONUS for this one. International OK, but only if you have sufficient feedback.

    Thanks for looking!

  3. Playing condition is perfect. Cosmetically, it is 9.5/10, having a small scratch on the top near the EQ and a few minute dings.

    Here are the specs:
    Maple neck
    34" scale
    24 frets (equivalent)
    Pau ferro fingerboard
    Ash body
single double humbucker with 3-band EQ
Original Musicman hardshell case (in excellent condition, a few cracks)
    Strung with Rotosound jazz flats.

I am asking $850 shipped CONUS for this baby.

I so want that Distillate, it's just out of my price range. Did you ever try stringing it EADGC?

  5. Nope, but it should work great. The low B is a little temperamental with the medium scale, especially with low action, but not unworkable.

Devon is a great guy to deal with. I was the previous owner of the Distillate 5 and I can say without a doubt it was my favorite Alembic. I wish I could buy it back myself.

Whoever buys this bass absolutely will not be sorry. It's a work of art that sounds and plays like a million bucks. It's light, it's balanced, it's real easy to look at and the LEDs on the side of the board are wonderful on a dark stage.

Bump for a great bass and a very honest seller!

That's funny - I now remember that I almost bought this one last time it was for sale. Oh well...

  8. If only the Distillate was a 4 string.:crying:

+1...and the Essence too. They are both real lookers. I have a particular weakness for straight-grained cocobolo. Hmm. Maybe it's lucky they aren't 4 bangers (LOL).:p

Looks like some buyers are going to have a lot to look forward to .

    BIG BUMP for the Distillate!

Hey, I am the original owner of that Alembic! I had it built for me when I was on tour and was my main bass for many years. Still to this day it is the best sounding bass I have ever owned. I babied that bass and it still looks as good as the day I bought it!

After I made the switch back to 4-strings I had sold it to Ruben Rodriguez, NYC session bassist with: Roberta Flack, Grover Washington Jr., Tito Puente, and Marc Anthony.

Here is a shot of the bass live at a jazz gig about five years ago

How is the B string I know they can be tempermental on a shorter scale neck.

  12. BTW, thanks for all the kind words WRT the Distillate and Essence. Awesome pic, Ken! Seeing her in someone else's hands (even if it's the original owners) really makes me realize what I'm going to lose here.

That Distillate is one of the few basses that I would consider liquidating stuff to try and get.
