3 piece Rock n Roll trio just added keys. What songs should we add?

Discussion in 'Band Management [BG]' started by SmokinJoe992, Mar 8, 2019.

  1. The title says it all. I play in a 3 piece (guitar, drums, bass) rock n roll , blues and country cover/bar band. We have just added a good keyboard player. What are some songs we should add?

Give us an idea of what stuff you are doing now, so we can get an idea - especially vocals

  7. Black Keys, Tom Petty, ZZ Top, Clapton, Kings of Leon, Allman Bros, INXS, 3Doors Down, Clapton, Blackberry Smoke, Gary Clark Jr, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Black Crowe, Doors, Queens of the Stoneage, etc. Everybody sings some so we cover a wide range. No one can pull off the Plant, Axl Rose, or Brian Johnson type stuff though.

Allman Brothers and Doors are heavily keys influenced.
Steppenwolf and Santana have good organ parts.

This is not really an answerable question. You have just added a ton of flexibility to your sound. What songs would you have liked to play when you were a trio, but didn't because you didn't have a keyboard player? Oh, and watch out for that doggone left hand trying to invade your frequencies. :D

  18. Do you have any particular songs that have worked good for you in the past?

  19. I am looking for some suggestions for songs that go over really well that you kinda have to have a keyboard for.

Okay. You have a lot of rootsy, bluesy stuff in your book. You've already got the Allmans, so there's a lot of material there. So here are two suggestions, both from the way long ago:
