3 piece Rock n Roll trio just added keys. What songs should we add?

Discussion in 'Band Management [BG]' started by SmokinJoe992, Mar 8, 2019.

  1. REO's "Roll With the Changes" was the first tune my old band added when I joined as keyboard player; next was Deep Purple's "Hush".

Adding a keyboard player opens up a lot of opportunities, if he/she is good and isn't of the mindset that the band is all about them. That's where the problems come in when adding keys to "no keys in the original" songs. at least in my experience as both a keyboardist and as a bassist.

Maybe some songs by The Band or "I Shot the Sherrif". If your keys player is really good they will know to ease up on the left hand a stay out of your lane.

  6. If the keys includes organ sounds, this is fun and might work with the other tunes you do:

I often whip this one out in rehearsal. Fun jam if you know it.

Shouldn’t the keyboard player have some ideas? How did they get the gig? :smug:

  10. Unfortunately, I have never had the pleasure of playing in a band that was willing or good enough to properly cover Pink Floyd.

But I could, I'd look to some of their older stuff, considering your existing setlist. Something like Embryo, or something off the Meddle album maybe. Or for a little more "60s-ness" Piper at the Gates of Dawn. Depends on how psychedelic you're willing to get I suppose. I just figured that since you're a 4-peice with keys you're already equipped for that earlier Floyd where Rick Wright's key work was prominent.

May or may not be considered “Rock n Roll” but there are a pile of 80s songs that I promise will go over with female dancers. Just search for top 80s songs. There are plenty.
