    Dear Fellow Bass Players,
I tried to ask this question once before but got a bunch of responses that were less then informative. I've been running these two knock off SWR Triad Cabs for 9 years and have always been complimented on there tone. I'm currently running a Ampeg SVT 6 PRO through them. They have Black Widow 1502's for the 15", sealed Selenium 10"s and Fostex/ Foster tweeters. They have custom passive crossovers and are made out of 3/4" Birch Ply with Line-X on Them. Needles to say They weigh a lot but SWR wishes They made Their Triads this solid. I've decided to replace the Speakers with Neo's to shave off about 25lbs a piece and I'm open to suggestions. Anthony at Eminence suggested Kappa Lite 3015 LF's and Delta Lite 2's for the 10's.The Kappa's are about 2 db more sensitive so what do You think? Thanks,

The crossover would need to be re-figured for the new drivers. That said, 1 kappalite 3015LF will make as much clean noise as 3 of those 1502 BW's (short xmax) if you've got enough power to send it that far. DL-II is a good driver, but has bass capability you don't need as a mid. Might be able to find something a little more affordable for that spot.

Well, I was also looking at the Faital Pro stuff. They've got a 300watt 10" and and a 400watt 15". Eminence also has a 150watt Neo 10" I believe. My Ampeg is rated at 1100watts at 4ohms. Both these Cabs are at 8ohms.

In the lows, the displacement is the real limit, not wattage. The 1502BW has a very short, 2.8-3mm xmax. That grindy, snarly sound some folks like running them full range is the sound of them going non-linear. I use and like the 1505DT Black Widows. Their xmax is 4.8-5mm. Re-basketing yours to a 1505 model would get you nearly twice the potential for clean output in the lows, but wouldn't shave a single ounce off the weight of the cab. The 3015LF has xmax twice that of the 1505 BW for comparison....loads of clean bass.

Jensen mod 10 guitar driver would make a good mid driver with such cab like yours, cross it between 800hz/1k.

  6. Best 3-way I have ever played is the AVATAR B156.
I absolutely love this cab. Use it 90% of the time.

Ya, I was talking to Dave at Avatar and He told that They make a Cab like mine but run the the 10" and 15"" full range. The tweeter He crosses at about 3.5 khz with an L- Pad. Effectively a 2 way crossover. It's not on Their website though.

Bass guitar doesn´t have much energy up there. For additional safety I would use 3rd order high pass filter and cross over point at 1 khz

  10. There is no benefit to running two different full range drivers together with out a cross over. None. It does however open the door for problems. One that is irrefutable is power handling. You are putting two different drivers together, but are sending them the same power. One driver will limit the system as a weak point.
