Do any of you Lakland owners/aficionados know if Lakland ever put out this 4-pickup version of the DJ4 (Indonesia). I'm trying to determine if this is original or an aftermarket mod. Thanks.
The DJ4 is basically a Jazz bass. Technically it's three pickups. The two in the middle in a zigzag pattern form one himbucker pickup. It (they?) Are aftermarket. The two straight pickups are stock.
It looks like the P-bass pickup is off center a but to clear the control plate edge. Having this many pickups on an instrument will effect it's sound, especially the sustain.
Thanks for the replies my bass brothers. It is a nice looking bass but I too would be concerned with sustain issues, not to mention the quality of the after-market mod.
Yep, that looks pretty amateurish, the P pickup is a later addition. I'm pretty sure I saw that on GC's website over the weekend and shook my head sadly. They'll be lucky to sell it at that price.
